About the Artist
Leah is a visual artist from Northern, New Jersey who uses creation as a mindful space where she can express emotions and evict emotions through her abstract work. She also strives to make the artistic process more accessible by showing art does not have to be technical or time-intensive to be enjoyable to the creator and the viewer, as well as an amazing learning tool.
Leah expressed interest in art at a young age highly encouraged by her family but was met with discouragement in her late-elementary school years. Her beloved art teacher had an advanced art class that Leah absolutely dreamt of being in. In fourth grade, Leah did not get into the class, which only left her with one more year to be a part of the class. She pleaded to her art teacher to let her in, in which she was met with “next year”. Being met with a “no” when at a young age she pleaded to learn more about art was a big part of the reason Leah now strives to show that nontechnical forms of art hold an immense value. To this day, Leah has had no formal training in art, but hopes to someday be granted the opportunity to do so.
Leah started fluid art in 2018 when many aspects of her life were quickly shifting- beginning her endless search of self-improvement. This led to her taking on four hobbies within the span of a few months- fluid art, meditation, hula hooping, yoga, and ukulele. To this day, the only hobby that stuck and truly granted Leah an emotional outlet was fluid art. In tune with her Master of Social Work degree, she now seeks to show others the mental and emotional benefits of creation.
Leah’s predominate medium is fluid art, although she is constantly experimenting and expanding the medium as she adds natural elements such as ethically sourced animal skulls and bones, pressed flowers, and crystals. Leah also incorporates other elements such as lace, glitter, epoxy resin, and clay to create new dimension and textures in her work. Leah is continually finding new influences to motivate her work-as of recent the combination of “cute and creepy” inspires Leah’s work, pushing the boundaries of femininity and odder aspects into her work. Leah is also influenced by nature, relationships with her loved ones, as well as media and musical talents-notably My Chemical Romance- fueling some of her darker works. Leah hopes to continue to encourage others to attempt working with their desired medium in spite of fear of subpar creations. Leah also seeks to collaborate with artists of multiple mediums to not only further expand her work, but to be granted the opportunity to learn from them.
